Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the historic battlefield which was the physical environment and barriers during the campaign, siege and defense of Vicksburg during the Civil War in the spring and summer of 1863.
Vicksburg National Military Park was established February 21, 1899. It was the fifth national military park created by Congress. Ownership was transferred from the U.S. Department of War to the U.S. Department of the Interior August 10, 1933. It is the eighth oldest national park in the United States.
This first picture shows the memorial dedicated by the State of Minnesota, the submitter's home state.
